Anthill
Today, I saw an anthill.
I crouched down to look, and a voice came from inside, "Hello."
"Hello," I replied.
"What do you need?" the anthill asked.
I said, "I was just looking around," and it didn't say anything.
After a while, I found a stick and stuck it into the anthill.
"Ouch!" the anthill cried out, startling me.
"Why did you stick it in me?" the anthill asked.
"I was just...testing it," I said.
"Testing it? Why don't you stick a stick in your own nose and see?"
I thought about it and realized it had a point.
I pulled the stick out, and there was a moment of silence in the anthill.
Then it said, "Oh well, I'm used to it anyway. Yesterday someone spat in me, the day before someone stuffed chewed gum in, and last week a kid poked me with a twig and then peed on me."
I didn't know what to say. After a while, I asked, "So what do you like?"
The anthill said, "I like rain."
"Why?"
"Because when it rains, no one will squat at the entrance and watch me."
